Bryce Davis BRP CanAm Winner At Little Valley
…wins Brock Young Memorial and $1422 …

Little Valley, NY…Bryce Davis won his first BRP CanAm Late Model Series tour event of 2010 on Saturday night (July 17) at Little Valley Speedway (LVS). The Canisteo teenager is on a hot streak at LVS where he has now won three in a row. The kid is good, his Hot Rod Lincoln is fast, and he had some good luck which all added up to a win in the prestigious Brock Young Memorial and a $1422 payday.

Davis is just 18 and a 2009 high school graduate, but in the cockpit of his White Lightening Hot Rod Lincoln he shows the maturity of a seasoned veteran. Outwardly he appears calm and cool at all times, but somewhere inside he has the fire to compete with the best in the BRP CanAm Series. Not only compete, but compete at the highest level, and win. Davis won his first BRP CanAm tour event at Black Rock last September. He came out of the box for the 2010 season on a mission to win a lot of races and hopefully the Series championship. He has won Series weekly events at both Black Rock and Woodhull, was second in the Series tour event at Humberstone, and now with the LVS tour win stands third in the point tally.

Perhaps the headline story for the night is that had it not been for a lap four incident between race leader Jeremy Wonderling and second place driver Wayne Robertson there might have been a different winner. That incident collected nine cars, put Jeremy Wonderling in the rear, and put Robertson, Mike Wonderling and AJ Young in the pits out of the race.

Davis fought off Adam Ashcroft for the lead on the lap four restart and led for the duration. Great racing for second between Ashcroft, Jim Johnson, and Jeff Chesebro probably worked to Davis advantage. On lap 17 Chesebro got to second where he finished. Jim Johnson had another great run in his Hot Rod Lincoln to complete the podium finishers. Larry Knowles recovered from the lap four incident to finish fourth. Mikey Wonderling dodged a lot of bullets to bring the Schuyler’s Himrod Hot Rod home fifth.

The rest of the Davis story is that between the wins and good finishes Davis has missed several Series weekly events with engine problems. The most recent failure was at Canandaigua on July 10. Repairs were completed from that disappointment just after 4PM on Saturday afternoon. Canisteo and Little Valley are separated by 84 miles. Do the calculation and you will understand why Davis almost missed the 6PM hot laps!

The spirit story belongs to Jeremy Wonderling – Mr. Excitement. Jeremy really wanted to win Brock’s race and had a car capable. It isn’t possible to exceed 100%, but Mr. Excitement was at the limit in his charge from the rear. He took to the outside – the extreme outside – where nobody else dared to run and passed cars at a rate of two or three per lap to claw his way back to fourth on lap 12. He was faster than the leader and closing in a hurry. We will never know if he could have gotten back to the lead. On lap 17 Jeremy went into four too hot and almost spun out. He recovered, but lost four positions. In the final two laps he made up some of the lost ground, but time ran out and he finished seventh – an incredible spirited run.

Notes…Bob Close earned the Dart Hard Charger Award with his run from 22 at the start to 10th at the finish in Ron Scharf’s beautiful #65 CRS Camaro…Jeremy Wonderling declined the $700 ISKY Camfather Back Row Challenge...The ISKY Challenge will be $800 at the next Series tour event on August 6 at Black Rock Speedway…Greg Young may be the luckiest guy to finish 15th ever. His race car rolled off the trailer and into the two vehicle at an intersection just a few miles from the Speedway – just a few miles off the Interstate…The Brock Young Memorial trophy build by Rod Biehler was the tallest and prettiest of the seven presented in prior years…BRP CanAm Series weekly event winner over the weekend were Mikey Wonderling at Black Rock and Glenn Whritenour at Woodhull.
