BRP CanAm Series Set for 2010 |
|
St. Catharines, ONT…Year number eight of the BRP CanAm Late Model Series will be in high gear for the 2010 Series tour opener at Merrittville Speedway on May 22. Canadian residents celebrate their Queen Victoria Holiday that weekend. Race fans from both Canada and the United States will celebrate with the annual Series opener for the BRP CanAm late models at Bicknell and Williamson family owned and operated Merrittville Speedway. Merrittville will host the first BRP CanAm tour event. However, the race teams will have had several Series weekly events under their belt before the trip across the border. Black Rock Speedway, Canandaigua Speedway, and Woodhull Raceway will all started their 2010 race seasons which will include late model Series weekly events. Little Valley Speedway’s 2010 specials only format will begin on Memorial Day Weekend. Note – Canandaigua Speedway! Yes, the BRP CanAm late models will be on the schedule for several events at the Land of Legends in 2010. There will be enough events at Canandaigua to meet the home track bonus program requirements. The detail schedule for the weekly Series events at Ontario County Fairgrounds track is being finalized by Cory Reed, the Speedway’s new General Manager. “We will fit the late model events in around the dates already set at Little Valley Speedway and Series events for our DIRTcar modifieds and DIRTcar Sportsman. Gary’s (Montgomery) late models have been crowd favorites at Canandaigua for a couple events per year. We aim to please our customers and will have the late models on the schedule as often as we can. This will give the late model race teams that previously competed at Genesee Speedway a Saturday night race place. Several of our DIRTcar stock car teams are planning to move up to the BRP CanAm late models. We will get some of the Black Rock race teams to race twice each week. Maybe we can even get that kid (Steve Dixon) with his Corvette to travel up from Pennsylvania! We are all excited to get going,” shared Reed from his office at DIRTcar Northeast headquarters in Weedsport. The Series tour event schedule currently reflects 14 events including Merrittville and the recent addition of a return to Humberstone Raceway at a date to be determined. Also on the Series tour schedule are three events at Black Rock Speedway, three at Little Valley Speedway, two block buster tour events at Canandaigua Speedway, two on the high banks of Woodhull Raceway, the annual County Fair race at McKean County Raceway, and a new event at Rolling Wheels Raceway on Friday of Super DIRT Week. This will mark the first ever BRP CanAm event at Rolling Wheels since the planned maiden trip was rained out in July 2009. There will be no rained out events in 2010! The 2010 tour event schedule: May 22 @ Merrittville Speedway, May 30 @ Little Valley Speedway, May 31 @ Woodhull Raceway, June 22 @ Canandaigua Speedway, July 2 @ Black Rock Speedway, July 17 @ Little Valley Speedway, August 6 @ Black Rock Speedway, August 18 @ McKean County Raceway, September 11 @ Woodhull Raceway, September 17 @ Canandaigua Speedway, September 18 @ Little Valley Speedway, October 8 @ Rolling Wheels Raceway, October 23 @ Black Rock Speedway, and TBD @ Humberstone Speedway. BRP CanAm technical specifications will remain essentially unchanged for 2010 with the exception that a quick change rear end will be allowed as an option to the Ford 9” rear end. It is expected that the 2010 BRP CanAm Late Model Tech Specs will be issued soon after the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show with clarification of a few details. BRP CanAm Series race procedures for 2010 will be essentially unchanged. Exceptions include that the A-Main will be reduced from 26 to the industry standard of 24, points will go to the driver rather than car owner, and an improved definition for “attempted starts.” Prize money for the reduced A-Main starting field will be redistributed resulting in an increase to $150 for the 24th finisher.
