BRP CanAm Drivers Share $45,940
St. Catharines, ONT… A record $45,940 was shared by the top fifteen drivers in BRP CanAm Late Model Series points and bonus award recipients at the 2009 Awards / 2010 Plans meeting.

Steve Dixon, the 2009 Series champion, earned the lion’s share with a total of $5700. Dixon’s four A-Main tour event wins and a 100 point home track bonus by virtue of a clean sweep at Little Valley Speedway earned him the champion’s trophy and the biggest check. Dixon, 29, now joins his father Bob as a BRP CanAm Series Champion. However, Dad has the advantage with Series championships in 2003 and 2004. Steve plans to even the score in 2010.

Larry Knowles was the only other driver to score multiple A-Main tour event victories during the 2009 campaign. The “Racin Guy” from Painted Post won twice and had consistent strong finishes, but fell short of Dixon by a mere 36 points. Knowles’ major shortfall was in home track bonus points where he lost 19 points to Dixon. Knowles has committed to return in 2010 and win the Championship which he has now missed by a narrow margin on three occasions. Knowles was third in the 2006 and 2007 standings.

Jeff Chesebro was hoping for a three – peat, but ended up third in the final tally. Cheze, the 2007 and 2008 Series Champion, fell behind both Dixon and Knowles in the opening two events (Merrittville and Little Valley) and was never able to recover. Chesebro remains on top of the Series win list with 10 career Series victories including a victory at Canandaigua in September 2009. Chesebro’s plans for 2010 may include a very different look.

Dave DuBois did not score a tour win in 2009, but consistent finishes on the tour and a near maximum effort (99 out of 100) at his home track earned the “Corfu Outlaw” fourth in the final point tally. DuBois will be back in a fresh Chevron Blue Shaw car in 2010.

Wayne Robertson made his first ever full assault on the BRP CanAm tour in ’09 and the result was a very impressive fifth place in the standings, which included 97 other drivers. The highlight for Robertson was his first ever tour A-Main win. The win was in front of a full house on NASCAR Night at Black Rock Speedway. The Addison, NY driver plans to have two Rockets in his new stacker trailer when the 2010 Series begins.

Greg Galligan’s ninth place in points made him the highest finishing rookie and with that came the $1000 Absolute Powder Coating Rookie of the Year bonus. Galligan and the Charles McGregor team shared a season’s end point fund and bonuses envelope containing $2350. Brian Knowles was the only other Series rookie to make the top 15 in points. This second generation race car driver ended up 14th and earned $1150.

Drivers finishing six through fifteen in the point standings all shared in the point fund. Mike Wonderling missed one of the twelve Series tour events and still ended up fifteenth to earn $1100.

Top 15: Steve Dixon – 1096, Larry Knowles – 1060, Jeff Chesebro – 1022, Dave DuBois – 912, Wayne Robertson – 890, John Waters – 872, Jeremy Wonderling – 860, Bryce Davis – 800, Greg Galligan, 796, Jason Boyle – 754, Jim Johnson – 735, Jon Rivers, 730, Mikey Wonderling – 723, Brian Knowles – 697, Mike Wonderling – 685
