Brock Young Memorial Serves As BRP CanAm Championship E. Smethport, PA...The 4th Annual Brock Young Memorial at the McKean County Raceway [MCR] in East Smethport, PA on Saturday September 30 will be the final race of the 2006 BRP CanAm Series. The final Series race for the year with an exciting point battle all for “Brock’s race.” It wasn’t planned that way, but after two rainouts in July the Young family and MCR Management reset the date for the next available / no conflict date and that date is this Saturday night. The Brock Young Memorial event was established by Brock’s family after he died in a 2002 highway accident. “Brock was a 360 late model / super stock racer who loved to race. He loved cars, he loved speed, and unfortunately he had no fear,” shares his father, Dick. “Our family established this race as a way to continue the memory of Brock’s life. We also need to use this event as a communication tool to share with all drivers that seat belts really do work. Race car drivers would not consider driving a race car without buckling in. Nobody should drive out of their driveway with buckling up.” Brock Young Memorial winners to date are Todd Rice [2003], Jeremy Wonderling [2004], and Darren Kish [2005]. All three will be in action Saturday night looking for another win while paying tribute with ONE FOR TWENTY TWO and the entire Young family. There have been eight different winners in the ten BRP CanAm Series events conducted so far this year. They are: Jason DuPont [Canandaigua], Randy Hall [Genesee], Todd Hansen [McKean], Jim Johnson [Ransomville], Larry Knowles [Black Rock], Dave Miller [Cayuga County Fair Speedway], Jon Rivers [Merrittville and Woodhull], and Jeremy Wonderling [Black Rock and Ransomville]. For DuPont, Hall, Hansen, Knowles, and Johnson it was their first ever in the 41 events staged since the Series was established in 2003. A great turn out is expected for this season finale and all are welcome. Series officials and MCR management are hoping for strong support from Black Rock Speedway, Freedom Raceway and Woodhull Raceway competitors. All are encouraged to join the MCR and Genesee Speedway race teams that compete regularly with the Series. To date 74 drivers have competed in Series events. “If we get 70 teams we will run a D-Main and a C Main in addition to our standard Ed Carley Motorsports B-Mains,” reports Bruce Thompson, Series Director, from his St. Catharines, Ontario office. Randy Hall, a Series rookie, leads the BRP CanAm Series point standings over a very determined Jon Rivers. In the past two events Rivers has reduced his deficit to Hall from 77 points to 37 points. The point spread from first to last is 60 points; accordingly, Rivers will be going for the win and Hall must make sure he keeps River’s Pro Speed Rocket GTO in sight in order to double as Rookie of the Year and Series Champion. Behind Hall and Rivers there are several very tight point battles. None are as close and intense as the three way tussle between Jeremy Wonderling [5th with 739 points], TJ Shaw [6th with 736 points], and Tim Schram [7th with 735 points]. Complete Series point standings are available at BRPCanAmSeries.com Saturday race will pay the winner $1422. Bonus programs in effect
for the event include: MCR pit gates will open at 11AM on Saturday morning. The grandstand will be open at 1PM. Racing starts at 5PM.
