BRP CanAm Series Heads To The High Banks

St. Catharines, ONT…The annual BRP CanAm Late Model Series trip to the high banks off Woodhull Raceway will take place on Saturday September 16. Jeff Chesebro, the defending Woodhull race winner, is very anxious to get back into victory lane. Chesebro is ninth in Series point standings, but has not yet won a 2006 Series race. He would like to move up the $21,422 point ladder, but he would love to win.

Larry Knowles is highest on the list of names being mentioned in bench racing this week as the favorite to win the Maynard Electric of Hornell / Cutler- Hammer hosted Woodhull. Knowles is a many time Woodhull track champion, he has won several non-series weekly events at Woodhull this summer, but most important he won the BRP CanAm Series A-Main at Black Rock Speedway last week. Knowles became the 20th different winner in 39 BRP CanAm Series events with his very impressive Black Rock victory.

Knowles now stands third in Series point standing just 32 points behind Merrittville winner Jon Rivers. In addition to the win Knowles has a second, a third, and a fourth on the driver performance index chart. The only blemish on Knowles’ 2006 record is a DNQ at Ransomville in June when he experienced engine problems in his CAT Rental Stores – Stages Motor Company GTO.

Randy Hall continues to be on top of the BRP CanAm point standings. Hall’s story book rookie season with the Series is highlighted with a win at Genesee Speedway last month, but others have also won. Hall’s driver performance index chart reflects and incredible seven top ten finishes in eight events. Hall has never raced a late model at Woodhull; in fact, he has not raced at Woodhull in several years. However, the Olean Flash has many laps and several wins on the Steuben County High Banks in IMCA Modified competition during the 1990s.

Knowles, Rivers, Hall and about 30 other BRP CanAm drivers and teams will experience their most difficult 2006 racing weekend with back-to-back events at Ransomville on Friday and Woodhull on Saturday. “We do not like the back-to-back schedule, but that is the way it has been since 2003,” says Series director Bruce Thompson. “We are already working the 2007 schedule. There will be some major changes and this is a situation that we hope to make it better for our race teams.

Following this weekend double header the teams have a week off to prepare for the 2006 BRP CanAm Series Championship at McKean County Raceway with the running of the 4th Annual Brock Young Memorial on Saturday September 30.

The current top twelve in Series points: 1. Randy Hall – 783, 2. Jon Rivers – 706, 3. Larry Knowles – 674, 4. Paul Grigsby – 643, 5. Jeremy Wonderling – 623, 6. TJ Shaw - 595, 7. Tim Schram – 593, 8.
