Ransomville Next For BRP CanAm Series

St. Catharines, ONT… Ransomville Speedway will host their second BRP CanAm Late Model Series event of the season on Friday September 15. The Friesen family owned and operated speedway features open wheel cars of the DIRT MotorSports organization on a weekly basis, but Friday night it will be the sleek full fendered late models that get top billing at the big fast half mile.

“The BRP CanAm teams always put on a great show here. We were delighted that we were able schedule two events for 2006. When the June show exceeded everyone’s expectations we thought that we should have scheduled three. Maybe we can do that next year! Our program for Friday features the late models, but includes dwarf cars, street stocks, and a new winner DIRT Sportsman special. Any Sportsman driver that has not won a main event is invited and we will make someone a new winner. Pit gates will open a 5, grandstand gates open at 6, and racing starts at 7:15,” reports Tana Robinson, Ransomville PR Director.

Jeremy Wonderling won the June event at Ransomville after a torrid duel with Randy Hall. Hall finished second that night and took the Series point lead which he has held since. While most in the grandstand were watching Wonderling and Hall, Bruce Miller and Darren Kish were battling side-by-side for third. At Matt Robinson’s checkered flags it was bottom feeding Kish who nipped moat rider Miller. For Kish, the 2005 Series Champion and 2004 Ransomville winner that third turned out to be his best 2006 Series finish to date. Kish plans a return trip to victory lane on Friday night.

Kish might make it back to victory lane, but he is not a factor for a repeat Series championship. Randy Hall, the Olean Flash, has been nearly perfect in his chase for the top spot in the $21,422 point fund. Hall has one win [Genesee] and six other top ten finishes in the eight Series events completed to date.

Jon Rivers, Merrittville race winner, is currently second in the point chase. Rivers reduced his deficit to 77 points when he was the DART Machinery Hard Charger at Black Rock Speedway last week. Rivers’ run from 16th to 6th helped to keep his Championship drive alive. Rivers likes the high speed Ransomville track and has many laps there in his DIRT Sportsman.

“The BRP CanAm Series point distribution system [100 to win – 40 for last] keeps things tight, tough, and exciting. We have been good all year, but not as good as Randy. The crash and DNF at Canandaigua really hurt us, but that could happen to anybody. There are three events remaining and we plan to be up front at each. The points will take care of themselves,” shares Rivers from his day job at Darrell’s Auto Service, the family business.

Larry Knowles catapulted from fifth to third in the point chase with his Black Rock Speedway victory last Friday. Knowles joined Jason DuPont, Todd Hansen, and Hall as first time Series winners in the most competitive season ever for the BRP CanAm Series.

The current top twelve in Series points: 1. Randy Hall – 783, 2. Jon Rivers – 706, 3. Larry Knowles – 674, 4. Paul Grigsby – 643, 5. Jeremy Wonderling – 623, 6. TJ Shaw - 595, 7. Tim Schram – 593, 8. Steve Dixon – 575, 9. Jeff Chesebro – 558, 10. Neil Patterson - 555, 11. Bruce Miller – 532, 12. Rick Baker - 508

In addition to the Ransomville race and the overall Series point chase the BRP CanAm drivers are contesting a $3000 LEAF Racewear Border Battle Bonus contest that will conclude at on Friday. Jon Rivers tops that list which includes 20 other drivers. Randy Hall, Bruce Miller, Steve Dixon, and Paul Grigsby all have a mathematical opportunity for Border Battle Championship.

Bob Mullen’s Pro Speed and East Coast Speed .com are title sponsors for the late model portion of the Ransomville program.

Following the Friday night Ransomville event the BRP CanAm race teams will head south. South to Vern Wasson’s Woodhull Raceway just outside of downtown Woodhull, NY.
