BRP CanAm Series Doubles at McKean and Merrittville This Week

St. Catharines, ONT… BRP CanAm Series race teams get to compete on both sides of the border this week.

First, on Thursday August 17 the McKean County Fairboard and Southeastern Transmissions of Olean will host the annual Fair Classic at McKean County Raceway in Smethport, PA, USA

Second, on Saturday August 19 Bicknell Racing Products and Hoosier Tire of Canada host a 55th Anniversary Special at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, ONT, Canada.

The McKean Fair race has a rich history that dates back to 1955 when Dean Layfield, Gus Nelson, Gib Mesler, Bob Burdick, and Chuck McKeirnan were the stars. None of the drivers that will compete for the 2006 McKean County Fair trophy were born in 1955!

Merrittville Speedway management has posted a $7555 purse which reflects an increased payoff for every position including $1055 to win and $200 to start for their continuing 55th Anniversary Party event. In addition each driver that enters Saturday’s program will earn 100 bonus points towards the $21,000 Series point fund.

LEAF Racewear of London, Ontario has posted a $3000 Border Battle Bonus program for events at Merrittville and Ransomville. Saturday’s event is the third leg of that program which will conclude at Ransomville next month.

These will be events number seven and eight of the twelve event 2006 BRP CanAm Series for 360 late models. The six events completed to date have included 64 drivers with five winners. Jeremy Wonderling is the only driver to have recorded multiple wins. Wonderling won at both Black Rock Speedway and Ransomville Speedway. Jon Rivers won the Victoria Day Holiday Special at Merrittville. Dave Miller won at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway. Jason DuPont won the inaugural event at Canandaigua Speedway. The most recent Series winner was Randy Hall at Genesee Speedway.

Despite Wonderling’s two wins he does not lead the $21,000 Series point championship standings. That honor belongs to Randy Hall. Hall, a Series rookie, has been very consistent with six top ten finishes. Hall has earned 630 points. Rivers stands second with 545 points. Paul Grigsby with five top tens and a 13th is a close third with 537 points. Wonderling’s up and down season has netted him 507 points to stand fourth. Larry Knowles moved up the points ladder to fifth with his third place finish at Genesee last Saturday. TJ Shaw, Tim Schram, Jeff Chesebro, Neil Patterson, Steve Dixon, Bruce Miller, and Rick Baker complete the top twelve at the half way point of the 2006 campaign.
