Jason DuPont BRP CanAm Late Model Winner at Canandaigua

Canandaigua, NY... Jason DuPont of Lewis Run, PA added his name to the winners list at Canandaigua Speedway -the Land of Legends - on Thursday night [August 10]. The near capacity crowd was treated to a barn-burner event when the BRP CanAm Late Model Series made its first ever event at the famous DIRT MotorSports operated race place.

DuPont made his second ever start in the Dean Fitzsimmons GRT Monte Carlo. His record in this hot rod is tonight’s win and runner-up to Dave Miller at Cayuga County Fair Speedway last month. DuPont has a job with Fitzsimmons whenever his super late model schedule allows!

DuPont was near perfect all night at the very racey Canandaigua ˝ mile. He won his heat, drew #2 starting spot in the main, and lead 26 laps to record his first ever BRP CanAm A-Main. His only “blemishes” were not leading the first three laps and losing the top spot to Darren Kish for one lap - lap 14.

Randy Hall – the Olean Flash - had the fastest car on the track after a lap 14 tire change [under somebody else’s caution], but that loss of track position resulted in a runner-up finishing position. Hall’s charge from the back was spectacular. Hall restarted 23rd on lap 15, he was 8th on lap 24, and charged to second – one car length back – at the 30 lap checkered flag.

Darren Kish, the defending Series Champion, started sixth and rode in the top five for the entire 30 laps. Kish used the absolute bottom of the track all race long. Kish lead lap 14, but was outgunned by DuPont on a lap 15 restart. He last second to Hall on lap 27.

Paul Grigsby continued his great 2006 Series campaign with a very racey fourth place finish. During the middle laps of the main Grigsby, Rich Michael, Larry Knowles, Jeff Chesebro, Alan Wais, and TJ Shaw wagged a three wide / two by two war that was unbelievable. Knowles and Chesebro lost that war when their cars crashed. Both continued, but the top five spots they were contesting for were lost.

Rich Michael recorded his best ever Series finish with a very nice fifth place in his new Ed Carley built Larry Shaw Monte Carlo.

TJ Shaw, Alan Wais, Jeremy Wonderling, Tim Schram, and AJ Young completed the top five finishers.

The 26 car starting field was set from 34 event entries by four F/A Products – Clevite Engine Parts heat races and the Ed Carley Motorsports B-Main. Heat race winners were AJ Young, Jeremy Wonderling, Jason DuPont, and Randy Hall. Jim Johnson won the B-Main

Brad Penn Racing Oil pole award winners were Jessica Pierce and Jeremy Wonderling.

The DART Machinery DART to the Front Hard Charger of the event was Mikey Wonderling who advanced from his 26th starting position to 11th at the checkered flag.

Suzuki Motorcycles and ATV Hard Luck Award winner was Junior Green. Green’s two race old Huff Monte Carlo was accidentally sent hard into the wall while leading the B-Main.
