Dave Miller BRP CanAm Late Model Winner at CCFS

Weedsport, NY...A “full house” was treated to something different at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway [CCFS] Sunday when the BRP CanAm Series for late models came to town. All of the 43 Series drivers were standing tall after a great show in front of the enthusiastic crowd.

Standing tallest was A-Main winner Dave Miller of Wellsville, NY.

Miller, a Dresser – Rand engineer, engineered an outside lane performance that had the undivided attention of the “at capacity” grandstand. Miller wheeled his 40 Caliber Racing GRT Grand Prix to the top of the track and calculated his way to the front from his sixth starting position. The only calculation for the final eight laps was questioning if the cushion, just eight inches from the wall, would hold and keep him off the wall. The final eight laps were worth the price of admission all by themselves. The side – by – side battle with Todd Hanson for those final laps helped to earn the Series a 2007 invitation to the CCFS.

This was Miller’s first 2006 victory and third career BRP CanAm Series win.

Jason DuPont made his first BRP CanAm start since September 2004. DuPont, subbing for Steve Fields in the Fitzsimmon’s Contracting, finished second. DuPont earned the DART Machinery $100 DART To The Front Hard Charger Award by coming from 22nd to the runner-up spot. DuPont passed Todd Hanson on the final lap in his story-book drive. Now he is wondering why he hasn’t raced with the Series more often.

Todd Hanson made his first 2006 Series start a great one by leading the race on two occasions for a total of two laps. Hanson’s third place finish wasn’t what he wanted, but it was a very impressive showing regardless of the final finish.

T.J. Shaw bettered his best 2006 finish by one position. Shaw, still feeling some ill effects from Ransomville injuries, finished fourth in the 30 lap BRP CanAm Series portion of the Star Spangled Late Model special which included the BRP CanAm Series and the World of Outlaws.

John Venuto scored his best ever Series finish when he rode his homebuilt Intrepid home for fifth place honors.

Paul Grigsby, AJ Young, Jeff Chesebro, Randy Hall, and Tim Schram completed the top ten finishers.

Suzuki Motorcycles and ATV Hard Luck Award winner was Bruce Miller who suffered a flat tire under caution while leading.

A season record 43 cars entered the event in their first ever appearance at a DIRT MotorSports owned facility.
