BRP CanAm – World of Outlaws Late Model Trivia

Weedsport, NY…What do Ron Baker, Vic Coffey, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller, Randy Hall, and Tim McCreadie have in common?

Answer #1: They are all race car drivers who will be racing Sunday night, July 2nd, at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway [CCFS] in Weedsport, NY.

Ron Baker and Randy Hall will be racing in the BRP CanAm Series portion of the Star Spangled Double Header event. Vic Coffey, Billy Decker, Tim Fuller, and Tim McCreadie will be racing in the World of Outlaws – Late Model Series portion of the program.

Answer #2: They have all won A-Main events at the Weedsport track! Very few race “students” of racing trivia would have known that. Baker won when the track was called Weedsport Speedway. Hall and the Outlaws have all since the track was renamed the Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Ron Baker’s Weedsport win was a New York State Late Model Championship in 1972. “I beat Will Cagle that night. Cagle was driving Bill Roese’s Ford and winning a lot of races at Weedsport and Utica Rome [in addition to DIRT modifieds] that year. I was driving the Maple City Dodge car that year. It was a big deal for anyone to beat Cagle at any race track back then. To beat him at his home track was a very big deal for me. That win still stands out as one of the highlights of my racing career,” recalls Baker. Sunday night Baker, a 70 year old racing legend, will buckle up in his Yorkshire Battery and Tire sponsored Larry Shaw Grand Prix in an attempt to repeat the magic of 1972.

Randy Hall’s Weedsport win came in an infrequent IMCA Modified event at the “Anchor Track of DIRT MotorSports “during a mid-1970s IMCA campaign. Hall, a Series rookie, has finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in his three 2006 Series starts. “Weedsport would be a great place to get that piece of business [win] taken care of. I have won a few races with this car, but they have been not been Series races. The BRP CanAm Series is very important to this team. The Weedsport event is very important to the Series. I do not remember a lot about the track, but we will figure it out. I hope we figure it out better and faster than anyone else,” says the Olean, NY racer. Hall’s ride on Sunday night will be the Duggan & Duggan Contractors CRS Camry. That is correct a Camry! While NASCAR ponders and negotiates for Toyota dollars the BRP CanAm Series has a Camry on the track.

Hall leads the BRP CanAm Series point chase by nine points over Merrittville Series race winner Jon Rivers. Hall has a 27 point advantage over Jeremy Wonderling who won the Series opener at Black Rock and the most recent event at Ransomville.

Vic Coffey’s three CCFS wins came in 1995 when he competed in the DIRT Sportsman division.

Billy Decker owns 16 DIRT Modified wins at CCFS, but none since August 2003.

Tim Fuller, 2005 Mr. DIRT Champion, has 17 DIRT Modified wins at CCFS. His most recent was in June 2005.

Tim McCreadie’s CCFS win record is 14 all in a big-block DIRT Modified. McCreadie is currently on tour with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

The Cayuga County Fair Speedway’s Star Spangled late model double header for the BRP CanAm Series Late Models and the World of Outlaws – Late Model Series will blast off at 7:00 Sunday; gates will open at 4:00.

CCFS is located on NYS Route 31 just one mile east of downtown Weedsport and two miles from NYS Thruway Exit #40. For more information contact the Speedway office at 315-834-6606 or www.cayugacountyfairspeedway.com.
