Wonderling Leaves Others Wondering at Ransomville Ransomville, NY...Jeremy Wonderling left his fellow BRP CanAm Late Model Series drivers wondering how did he get away with that when he scored his second 2006 Series win at Ransomville Speedway on Friday June 23. They were wondering how he could bounce off the fence and keep going without losing any momentum. They were wondering if he was abusing his car and tires such that he wouldn’t make it to the checkered flag. They were wondering who in the world is this daredevil Wonderling guy. Everyone is now wondering if Wonderling will use the same exciting style when the Series races next at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, NY on Sunday July 2. Jeremy Wonderling lived up to his Mr. Excitement nickname in grand fashion with an outstanding rim riding adventure that few believed could last 30 laps. When Wonderling charged to the fence on lap 20 and passed then race leader Randy Hall, even the announcer was speechless. The next ten laps were textbook high speed adventure with Wonderling bouncing around the top looking for the cushion which was about six inches inside the fence where there was any at all. Hall was hugging the bottom. There were several passes during the final ten laps, but Wonderling maintained the top spot at the scorer’s stripe. “I wasn’t sure that I could keep it up. I must have hit the fence a dozen times. I knew that he [Hall] was strong. He has been winning a lot of races this year, but so have I. I really wanted to pass him for the win. I beat him at Black Rock, but I started in front of him. I wasn’t a factor at Merrittville. Tonight we were both on top of our game. I gambled on tires. I gambled that I could find the berm before the fence. I gambled coming here tonight rather than going to Black Rock. Gambling really paid off tonight. That was a lot of fun,” reported Wonderling from the tech area after the event. Hall shared, “I have won several races this year, but none of these BRP CanAm Series events so the pressure was really on. This is where all the competition and money are. I really wanted to win a BRP race and get that behind me. I had a great shot at it tonight, but chose the wrong line. The trouble is that several people told me that the fast way around this track is the top. I tried it a couple of times, but felt more comfortable on the bottom. I should have listened to the guys that have raced here before. The track changed a little, but that is not an excuse. When we come back here in September I will be up in Mr. Excitement’s lane. They will have to pass me on the bottom.” Behind Wonderling and Hall there was more great racing going on. None was more exciting than the photo finish when 2005 BRP CanAm Series champion Darren Kish nipped early race leader Bruce Miller at the finish line for third. Miller was in the moat with Kish bottom feeding as the pair reached Matt Robinson’s flying checkered flags. Neil Patterson may have been the happiest racer on the grounds at Ransomville. Patterson had lots to be happy about. It all started when he towed only “about seven and one half miles” to reach the track from his home. He finished second in his heat race; therefore, he was eligible for the top twelve draw. He was happiest about his great fifth place finish, his best finish of the year. Jon Rivers, Series winner at Merrittville last month continued his strong 2006 season with a sixth place finish. Rivers entered the event leading both Series and LEAF Racewear Border Battle point standings. Rivers left Ransomville second to Hall in both contests. Paul Grigsby earned his second top ten finish of the season with a fine seventh place run. Grigsby started 11th and ran in the top ten after lap two. Todd Rice also recorded his second top ten of the year when he brought his Ford powered hot rod home eighth. Jeff Chesebro gained 11 spots during the 30 lap contest to finish ninth. Chesebro’s problem was that he started way back in 20th after winning the first ED Carley Motorsports B-Main. Steve Dixon, the 2005 Series Rookie of the Year, rounded out the top ten. F/A Products – Clevite Engine Parts heat race winners were Randy Hall, Matt Cobb, Jeremy Wonderling, and Jon Rivers. Each earned a $50 Clevite Engine Builders award. Ed Carley Motorsports B-Main winners were Jeff Chesebro and Scott Beherns. Each earned a $50 certificate. DART to the front hard charger of the race was Rick Baker who used a provisional to start the A-Main and passed 12 cars to finish 13th. For that Baker earned $100 DART Dollars from DART Machine / DART Heads. Suzuki Motorcycles and ATV Hard Luck Award winner was TJ Shaw who broke his hand when the drive shaft broke after the checkered flag in the heat race where Shaw had finished third. 36 race teams entered the Event #3 of the 2006 BRP CanAm Late Model Series. Welcome back to Pete Waldron, Alan Wais, and John Venuto all of whom made their first starts of the year. First timers with the Series were Carl Shetler and Brady Wonderling [brother of the race winner]. This event served as round two of the four round $3000 LEAF Racewear Border Battle Contest which will resume when the Series returns to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday August 19.
