Ransomville Next For BRP CanAm Series St. Catharines, ONT…Hot Summer Night Special, the third event of the 2006 BRP CanAm Series, will take place Friday June 23 at the Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, New York. The Niagara Frontier half-mile is one of the favorite spots for the touring BRP CanAm Late Model race teams. The track offers lots of room for high speed racing and has always been prepared to perfection for the visiting racers. Ransomville hosted the Series in 2003 with Doug Ricotta scoring a popular victory. In 2004 Darren Kish eked out a win when he blew the motor on the final lap and sat in victory lane with oil and water bubbling out of his Larry Shaw Taurus. The 2005 Series show fell victim to rain. This year the Friesen’s have booked two BRP CanAm events – this month’s Hot Summer Nights Special and the traditional September King of the Hill weekend show. Jon Rivers heads to Ransomville with the BRP CanAm Series point standings lead as a result of his victory in last month’s Series event at Merrittville Speedway combined with his fourth place finish in the 2006 Series opener at Black Rock Speedway in April. Rivers considers Ransomville an “almost hometown track” since his Basom, NY home is only 20 some miles from Ransomville. Rivers has earned 185 points in two events. Randy Hall will make his first ever Ransomville start on the 23rd. Hall, a rookie 360 Late Model driver, is second in Series points after finishing third at Black Rock and fourth at Merrittville. Hall has won several non-Series events in recent weeks. The Olean, NY “lightening bolt” is just 10 points out of the top spot with 175 points. Larry Knowles, third in Series points, will make his first ever Ransomville start in his wife’s brand new CAT Rental Stores CRS Monte Carlo. Knowles has been very impressive in the prior two 2006 events with “old reliable” and will probably trailer both cars from his race shop in Painted Post, NY. Knowles has 153 points. Jeremy Wonderling, the second generation Scio Speed Society racer, won the 2006 Series opener at Black Rock and since has been a tear in late model competition at that track with five wins and the point lead. Wonderling has slipped to fourth in the Series point tally as a result of his 21st place Merrittville finish. Mr. Excitement owns 143 points. Tim Schram enters the Ransomville show seated very comfortably fifth in the early season point chase. At this point last year Schram wasn’t on the points radar screen, but he rebounded to end up fourth at season end. Schram is just one point behind fellow Scio Speed Society member – Wonderling. Schram has earned 142 points with his fourth place finish at Black Rock and tenth at Merrittville. These drivers plus another 30 some are expected for the $1000 to win Hot Summer Night Special. Join the party at Ransomville Speedway on Friday June 23rd. The gates will open at 5:00PM; racing starts at 7:15PM. The Ransomville event will be the second round of the $3000 LEAF Racewear Border Battle Bonus mini-series. $3000 will be shared between the BRP CanAm race teams that enter both Merrittville Speedway and both Ransomville Speedway. 36 teams are currently eligible for the bonus. The 2006 BRP CanAm Series will visit Black Rock Speedway, Canandaigua Speedway, Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Genesee Speedway, McKean County Raceway, Merrittville Speedway, Ransomville Speedway, and Woodhull Raceway for 12 events in 2006. The 2006 Series will conclude at Black Rock on Saturday October 7 with a $10,000 non-point affair.
