2006 BRP CanAm Series Update

St. Catharines, ONT…Preseason work for the 2006 BRP CanAm Series continues as organizers prepare for year four of the Series. A nearly complete, but still work–in–progress schedule has been issued and a robust list of Marketing Partners is taking shape to help ensure continued bonus programs and another outstanding point fund.

The current schedule includes 12 confirmed events with a few additional options being discussed. “Last year we held 12 events, 11 in 2004, and 8 in the first year. The best news about the 2006 schedule is that the distribution is much more racer friendly. We are spread out over the entire spring / summer / early fall season which allows the race teams to be better prepared for their weekly track programs as well as the Series events,” says Series co-director Bruce Thompson.

April: The 2006 BRP CanAm Series will kick-off at Dean Hoag’s Black Rock Speedway on Saturday April 15. Black Rock has modified the technical specifications for their super stock class to bring those cars closer to the BRP CanAm Late Model specs so perhaps there will be some new names in the field for the Series opener. All of the Series race teams are strategizing on how to stop Jeff Chesebro’s two for two win steak at the Dundee, NY race place.

May: The month of May is highlighted by Monday Night Madness at Merrittville Speedway on May 22. When Canadian government officials declared Queen Victoria’s May 22 birthday a national holiday, it is inconceivable that they had any idea that someone would use that Holiday for a Monday Night Madness stock car racing event! Merrittville Speedway race fans could care less what night it happens! They are simply looking forward to the great shows that the BRP CanAm Series has staged at the Thorold, Ontario speedway in the past. These events have all been won by the racing Miller family from Wellsville, NY. Andy Miller won the first show in 2004. Andy’s father, Dave, and brother, Bruce, both won in 2005.

June: Ransomville Speedway has hosted the Series with a single event for the past three years. That changes in 2006 with two BRP CanAm Series events now on the schedule. The new added event will be on Friday June 23. The traditional September King of the Hill date remains. Doug Ricotta, Darren Kish, and Mother Nature are past Series winners at the Friesen family’s racing facility.

July: The month of July schedule is perhaps the most exciting with two very special events planned. On Sunday July 2 the BRP CanAm Series will make its first ever visit to the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, NY. This new event will be a double header featuring the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the BRP CanAm Series. A new and important venue is good news, but when the Series can share billing with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, that is great news. On Saturday July 22 McKean County Raceway in Smethport, PA will host the 4th Annual Brock Young Memorial. This $1422 to win event is very important to the Series since it pays tribute to a young racer who lost his life in a 2002 highway accident. Brock Young’s family, spearheaded by his mother, Roxie, and his father, Dick, add to the promoter’s purse to make it one for twenty two [$1422] in recognition of Brock’s racing number 22. Todd Rice, Jeremy Wonderling, and Darren Kish all own a Brock Young Memorial winner’s trophy.

August: Four events are on the schedule for August The BRP CanAm Series will make its maiden trip to Canandaigua Speedway on Thursday August 10. This is another new and history rich important track for the touring Series. The BRP CanAm Late Models will share billing with the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series at the Land of Legends for this much anticipated event. On Saturday August 12 the Series moves west on Interstate 90 to the Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY. Genesee is a track that features the BRP CanAm cars on a weekly basis and has historically produced record car counts for the Series. Genesee owns the Series event record car count of 50. The stand alone Genesee car count average is 45. Doug Ricotta, Dustin Croft, Ed Carley, Jon Rivers, and Tim Schram are past Series winners at Genesee. On Thursday August 17 the Series returns to the McKean County Raceway for the annual McKean County Fair race. The fair will celebrate its 101st anniversary in 2006. Stock car racing has been an attraction at this fair since 1955 and the Series is proud to have been part of this rich tradition for the past two years. The BRP CanAm race teams love this spacious 1/3 mile track. Bob Dixon and AJ Young are past winners of this event. After McKean, it is back across the border to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday August 19 as the 55th Anniversary Season of this now very modern and racey facility continues. The 2005 August event at Merrittville was highlighted by wheel stands for several of the 2700# BRP CanAm cars thanks to outstanding clay prepared to perfection.

September: The September schedule includes return trips to Black Rock Speedway and Ransomville Speedway as well as the annual trip to the high banks of Woodhull Raceway. Big / new news is that this trip to Black Rock will be on Friday September 8 for the 8th Annual Bully Hill Vineyards 360 Nationals Weekend. This will be the 8th annual Bully Hill event for the 360 sprinters, but the 1st annual for the BRP CanAm 360 late models. “I believe that this will be the start of a major new racing event in the Northeast. We typically attract over 70 sprinters for this event. Maybe we can get that many BRP CanAm cars! With its rich history the Bully Hill Weekend has become a major racing event and I plan to make it bigger and better. The natural marketing tie of these two types of 360 race cars provides a great opportunity for Black Rock Speedway to grow the weekend in another dimension. You will be hearing a lot more from us on this,” reports Black Rock Speedway owner Dean Hoag. The following weekend is a double header for the BRP CanAm teams with a Friday date at Ransomville Speedway and Saturday date at Woodhull Raceway. The Friday September 15 Ransomville event will kick off that track’s annual King of the Hill racing weekend. The following night, Saturday September 16, the race teams head off to Woodhull Raceway for what has become a great tradition. The high banks, great clay, tight configuration, and great organization make this a favorite Series stop for many of the racers. Ed Carley and Jeff Chesebro both own Series victories at Woodhull.
