Chesebro Repeats as BRP CanAm Winner at Black Rock
Dundee, NY…Jeff Chesebro has a new favorite race track – Black Rock Speedway.
Chesebro won the 2005 season ending BRP CanAm Series A-Main at Black Rock Speedway on Saturday [10/15].
Chesebro’s second win in two career starts at Dean Hoag’s race place closed the 12 event BRP CanAm Series for 2005. If Hoag were to schedule races for every weekend until Christmas you can be assured that Chesebro would haul his Fitzsimmons Contracting – Chese’s Performance Exhaust GRT Monte Carlo the 130 miles from his shop in Smethport, PA to Dundee, NY every weekend. “I love this place. It is fast and there is plenty of room to race. I cannot wait to come back,” Jeff announced during his Victory Lane interview.
Chesebro started 10th in the 27 car field and quickly moved to the top five primarily as a result of a lap four tangle in front of him which sent three of his best friends to the back of the pack for the restart and Dave Miller, who probably had the best [fastest] car of the field to the pits and out of the race. Chese picked them off one at time and on lap 15 moved past Todd Rice, the Brad Penn Racing Oil Pole Starter and only other race leader to show #97 atop the score board.
Rice gave chase and poked the nose of his Bauchard Dodge / Resale – Tioga Energy GRT Taurus under his neighbor and good friend on several occasions during the next twelve laps. When the leaders caught the back of the back the race turned chess game and Chese won both the chess match and the race.
Darren Kish nipped Rice at Greg Hixson’s checkered flag to conclude his outstanding championship year to earn runner-up honors. Rice recorded his third third place finish of the year. He also finished third in the point battle.
Paul Grigsby may have been the happiest driver at the track. He brought his Barden Homes – Beck Development Shaw Monte Carlo across the line fourth [from 16th]. Grigsby had been troubled by mechanical failures and DNFs in three of the last for races. “I am happy. I finished and nothing broke. This is the way it ought to be all the time,” shared the East Concord racer as the drivers gathered for the Championship photo shoot.
Steve Dixon, 2005 BRP CanAm Series Rookie of the Year, brought his Duffy’s Inc – Fox’s Pizza Bullit Monte Carlo home fifth for his seventh top ten finish in 12 starts.
Neil Patterson, Jon Lichy, Dave DuBois, Junior Peters, and Tim Dunham completed the top ten.
Chesebro was the hottest rookie on the BRP CanAm tour for 2005 with three wins [tying Series Champion Darren Kish for win totals], but he did not start racing until August. The missed shows cost Chesebro any shot at a piece of the $21,422 point fund which was shared by the top twelve point earners. In addition to the Black Rock wins Chesebro won at Woodhull. Chesebro backed up his wins with an outstanding third place run at Merrittville and a hard fought fourth place finish in the Theresa Dixon Memorial at McKean County Raceway.
The starting line-up for the BRP CanAm season finale was set via four 10 lap qualifying races which were won by AJ Young, Darren Kish, Dave Miller, and Todd Hanson
