Chesebro First Time BRP CanAm Winner at Woodhull

Woodhull, NY…Jeff Chesebro won his first ever BRP CanAm main in event #9 of the 13 event 2005 Series at Woodhull Raceway on Saturday September 17.  Chesebro, a rookie on the Series, came off his best ever Series finish at Merrittville Speedway last weekend [third] to dominate the Pro Speed sponsored 30 lap Woodhull Raceway event.

Chesebro started his GRT Monte Carlo fourth and made his way to the front on lap six and was never headed, but he owned only a car length advantage over second place finisher Bruce Miller when the checkered flags flew.  Miller’s GRT Monte Carlo was the faster of the two cars in the final laps, but time ran out as Miller sought his fourth career BRP CanAm win.

The main started off with the first of two cautions that slowed the race. A four car tangle was triggered when Larry Knowles’s car broke before the first lap was complete.  The melee collected Neil Patterson, Jason Tingue, and Tim Kauffman.  All but Knowles were able to continue.

TJ Shaw fired his Koester Associates GRT Monte Carlo from the Brad Penn Racing Oil pole starting position to lead lap one.  Tim Schram took the top spot on lap two and was hoping to repeat his winning performance of last week at Genesee Speedway.  Schram lost the top spot to Chesebro on lap six.

The second caution period occurred on lap 29 when Schram and AJ Young tangled while racing for fourth position.  Schram continued to finish a disappointing 15th.  Young’s car was too badly damaged to continue, but he was the first car one lap down and scored 16th.

Jeremy Wonderling matched his best 2005 Series finish with a strong third place showing in his Baldwin Forest Products – Root’s Water Systems Shaw Grand Prix.

Rich Michael made his first ever BRP CanAm start and was rewarded with a fine fourth place finish.  The Woodhull show was Michael’s second ever 360 late model start!  Michael had won several IMCA Modified races at Woodhull in the early 1990’s.

Mike Wonderling made his fourth ever and fourth 2005 Series start. The veteran driver used his Woodhull experience and a strong running Bill Campbell powered Rocket Grand Prix to finish fifth, his best ever BRP CanAm showing.

TJ Shaw, Todd Rice, Darren Kish, Dave Miller, and Glenn Whritenour completed the top ten finishers.

The 39 car field was reduced to 26 A-Main starters via four heats won by AJ Young, Bruce Miller, Todd Rice, and Mike Wonderling.  Ed Carley Motorsports $100 B-Main winners were Jon Lichy and Greg Galligan.  Jason Tingue and Neil Patterson used provisional to make the A-Main.

The Close Racing Supply Hard Charger was Greg Galligan who drove his Dodge powered GRT Intrepid from 20th at the start to 10th at the finish.
