BRP CanAm Racers Headed To Canada

St. Catharines, ONT…The BRP CanAm Super Stock Series race teams will be headed to the New Humberstone Speedway in Pt. Colborne, Ontario for the third event of their twelve event 2005 BRP CanAm Series on Sunday August 7.

The Series raced twice at Humberstone [then Gasport] Speedway in 2003 when Bob Dixon and Dave Miller recorded victories. The event scheduled for 2004 did not take place since the Speedway was closed while ownership was being transferred from the Wagner family to the Cosco family.

The BRP CanAm racers are looking forward to their return to “the best clay that they have ever raced on” Bruce Miller, a BRP CanAm racer from Wellsville, NY, shared, “I could not even steer my car. The clay was so tacky that you had to throw the car into the turn and then simply hold on and power out. It was outstanding, but very different than the tracks we normally race on.” The racers may be looking forward to Humbersone’s great clay, but they are not necessarily looking forward to racing in Darren Kish’s neighborhood. Kish, from Pt. Colborne, leads the 2005 BRP CanAm point race by virtue of wins at both Little Valley Speedway and McKean County Raceway. Kish has raced many laps and won several races at his hometown track in both street stocks and DIRT Pro Stock, but two BRP CanAm starts at his home track have yielded only 12th and 20th.

Kish leads the early season point chase, but Scio Speed Society members AJ Young and Tim Schram are second and third respectively and both desperately want to take the 2005 championship trophy home to Scio. Hotshot SS driver Bill Holmes has won a lot of races and several championships, but he has never won a BRP CanAm event and never had a top five point season with the Series. His 2005 record to date includes a third at Little Valley and ninth at McKean which places him fourth in the current points. Mr. Consistency, Todd Rice, is quietly being consistent again in 2005. Two sixth place finishes put him fifth in points. It is far too early for points discussion, but they indicate the early season strength some of the teams are showing. Heading that list are TJ Shaw, Ron Baker, Jeremy Wonderling, Bob Babbitt, Matt Cobb, Jason Tingue and Neil Patterson. The flip side of the early season strength is highlighted by the struggling Series Champion, Bob Dixon Dixon made the Little Valley Main via a B-Main and was 21st at the finish. This Smethport, PA racer was among the 17 who did not qualify for the Brock Young Memorial at McKean. Dixon is a great champion, a great racer, and a gritty guy who will overcome these early problems and make a lot of noise as the season progresses.

53 teams have competed in the Series in the two events to date. 45 entered at Little Valley and 43 at McKean. Series officials are hoping to add several new teams to the fray at Humberstone and hope that the Atkinson’s Delivery / TNT Motorsports sponsored event will attract 40 some entries. Sunday’s 30 lap A-Main will pay $875 to win and $100 to start [all US$]. The Brad Penn, Clevite Engine Builders, Close Racing Supply Hard Charger, and Ed Carley Motorsports bonus programs will all be in place for the BRP CanAm return to Humberstone Speedway, the “Tacky Track of the North.”
