Kish Wins $1422 Young Memorial

E. Smethport, PA…Darren Kish of Port Colborne, Ontario won the 3rd Annual Brock Young Memorial at McKean County Raceway [MCR] on Saturday night. The event was round two of the twelve event 2005 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series. Kish’s first ever MCR win was his second of the 2005 BRP CanAm Series. The Canadian visitor took home not only the $1422 posted winner share of the $8900 awards, but also earned a $100 bonus by leading lap 22. Kish started seventh in the 26 car field. He took the lead from defending Brock Young Memorial winner Jeremy Wondering on lap 10. Kish then rode his Atkinson’s Delivery – Bobcat Service Shaw Taurus in the top spot until the checkered flag at lap 30 to record his fourth career BRP CanAm main event win.

Tim Schram continued his great racing season with his best ever BRP CanAm Series finish earning runner-up honors in his Warehouse America GRT Monte Carlo. A.J. Young was hoping to win the race that honors his late brother and at times appeared to have the fastest car. AJ advanced from tenth at the start to bring his Otis Eastern Oil and Gas Field Service Bullit Intrepid home in the show spot. Jeremy Wonderling raced in the top five all race long. When the second generation driver blasted by pole starting Ron Baker on the second lap many thought he could repeat as the Brock Young Memorial winner. Wonderling was exciting, but had to settle for fourth in his Baldwin Forest Products Shaw Grand Prix. Baker, the 69 year old who races his Yorkshire Battery & Tire – Sisson’s Body Shop Rocket Grand Prix as a 29 year old, rounded out the top five.

Todd Rice, the defending MCR track champion climbed from 12th at the start to 6th in his Bauchard Auto Group – Tioga Energy Texaco GRT Taurus. Jason Tingue earned the Close Racing Supply Hard Charger Award [$100] by advancing 14 positions to finish 7th in his Emerling Ford- Mercury Shaw Taurus. Jon Lichy and Bill Holmes each finished where they started, 8th and 9th, but that does not reflect the great drives each of these fierce competitors authored. TJ Shaw used a provisional to gain entry into the A-Main and worked his way to 10th at the checkers. He would have liked more laps.

Five heats and two B-Mains were used to set the 26 car field. Tim Schram, Bill Holmes, Jeremy Wonderling, Darren Kish, and Ron Baker won the heats. The Ed Carley Motorsports B-Main winners were Jason Tingue and Dean Layfield each earned a $100 bonus.

F/A Products - Clevite Engine Builder Award winners were Tim Schram [Tony Foth], Jeremy Wonderling [Carl McQuillen], and Ron Baker [Bill Campbell].

Next BRP CanAm Series event is Sunday August 7 at the New Humberstone Speedway [previously Gasport and “original” Humberstone] in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada.
