BRP CanAm Racers Ready for Brock Young Memorial St. Catharines, ONT…The BRP CanAm super stock race teams are ready for the 3rd Annual Brock Young Memorial at McKean County Raceway [MCR]. Saturday night July 23rd the family of the late Brock Young will present event #2 of the 12 event BRP CanAm Super Stock Series – One For Twenty Two. Brock Young, a super stock racer, was killed in a highway accident in 2002. Nobody in the super stock racing community will forget the September race event at Little Valley Speedway a few days after Brock’s death when his racing buddy and fellow Scio [NY] Speed Society member Tim Dunham put the body skin of Young’s #22 super stock on his race car and almost won the event. Likewise, few will forget the 1st Brock Young Memorial at MCR in 2003 when Todd Rice won what was then and still is “the biggest and most important race of my career.” The 2004 Brock Young Memorial race was another great chapter in area racing history when Brock’s former classmate and good friend, Jeremy Wonderling, won on what was a very emotional night for him. Not only did he win his buddy’s race, but the win came just five days after Wonderling’s grandfather died. The posted winner’s share of the purse for each of the Brock Young Memorials has been $1422. Brock always raced cars numbered 22; accordingly, his family has posted the One For Twenty Two prize money for the memorial race. The 3rd Annual Brock Young Memorial will be event #2 of the 12 event 2005 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series. The opening Series event was won by Darren Kish of Port Colborne, Ontario. Kish is an infrequent competitor at MCR who will be looking for his first MCR win and the fourth Series win of his career on Saturday July 23. Defending Series champion, Bob Dixon, is a weekly racer at MCR who has yet to win a race in 2005. Dixon would really like to turn his racing year around with a win in this prestigious event. Defending race winner, Jeremy Wonderling, is another hot-shot driver without a win in 2005. He too will be looking for a change of luck. Can you imagine the emotion if Brock’s brother A.J. won the event? A.J. won at MCR last week and, with that victory, became a guaranteed starter in Saturday’s event. The list of potential winners goes on and on 45 drivers entered the first 2005 Series event. Last year 39 drivers entered the Brock Young Memorial. In 2003, a record 48 drivers competed for a starting berth in One For Twenty Two. Race time at MCR for the Brock Young Memorial is 7PM. Complete MCR information at www.mckeancountyraceway.com.
