Three More Rookies for BRP CanAm Series

St. Catharines, ONT…Three additional drivers have filed to compete for 2005 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series Rookie of the Year. Joining Steve Dixon and Larry Knowles, who filed last month, are Jason Amedick, Bob Dickinson, and Mike Wonderling, Sr.

Amedick, a second generation race car driver from Alden, NY, has several years of Late Model Super Stock experience at Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY. However, Amedick qualifies as a BRP CanAm rookie since he has competed in only one Series event prior to the 2005 racing season. The 34 year old elevator mechanic’s prior BRP CanAm start resulted in a forgettable 23rd place finish at Genesee last year. “We did not have a good run in the Main, but we made it to the Main and with 50 cars [actually 48] it was a victory for us just to make the A. We have a new GRT Monte Carlo with fresh Carl McQuillen power for this year. We plan to be at Genesee most Saturdays and make all the BRP CanAm shows. I have never been to most of the Series tracks so this really will be a rookie program,” reports Roy’s boy.

Bob Dickinson is another Genesee Speedway racer who has added a full BRP CanAm Series schedule to his 2005 racing calendar. Dickinson enters his second year of racing with the Rocket Taurus that Jim Johnson drove to ninth place in Series points last season. The really great looking red #713 DMR Woodworking is powered by a Gavenda built Ford. The car is a proven front runner which Dickinson hopes will carry him to the BRP CanAm rookie title. Dickinson’s only prior Series effort resulted in a DNQ at Genesee last August.

Mike Wonderling, Senior’s BRP CanAm Rookie program is perhaps the biggest surprise of the pre-season. Few knew anything about the program which will put the patriarch of the Wonderling gang in a Super Stock for selected 2005 events. Mike, Sr. is best known for his exploits in a Late Model where he will continue to focus his 2005 racing program; however, he will also run for BRP CanAm Rookie honors. The 25 year racing veteran has never raced a Super Stock until this year. Wonderling has “about 100” race wins to his credit, all coming in Late Model and Sportsman [E-Mod / IMCA type] cars. Mike shared the following, “This is the Rocket Grand Prix that Jeremy drove two years ago. He sold it to a guy here in Wellsville who lost interest before he ever raced it. Jeremy called while I was working in California about six weeks ago and told me what we could buy the car for and I told him to go get a check from Mom. I thought it would be good backup car for either Jeremy or Mike, Jr. A few weeks later I was working in Michigan and Jeremy called with a real deal on a Billy Campbell built Super Stock engine. I told him to go get a check from Mom. I had never driven a Super Stock until last weekend [McKean County Raceway]. I beat the boys [both Jeremy and Mike Jr. had problems] and had some fun. The motor was really lazy, but [Bill] Campbell found the problem and now it will be even more fun.”

Rookie eligibility requires that the driver has competed in no more than one BRP CanAm Series event prior to the 2005 Series. At the end of the 2005 Series, the rookie driver who has accumulated the most points will be named BRP CanAm Series Rookie of the Year. In the event of a tie the driver with the best A-Main finishing position will be declared the winner.

The twelve event 2005 BRP CanAm Series will begin on May 29th at Little Valley Speedway and conclude on October 15th at Black Rock Speedway. Other tracks hosting 2005 Series events include Genesee Speedway, Humberstone Speedway, McKean County Raceway, Merrittville Speedway, Ransomville Speedway, and Woodhull Raceway. Detail schedule is available at www.brpcanamsuperstockseries.com.

This Series is designed to promote the very competitive Super Stock race teams that compete weekly at Genesee Speedway and McKean County Raceway.
