Todd Rice Racing for 2005 BRP CanAm Championship

St. Catharines, ONT…Todd Rice has finished third in BRP CanAm Super Stock Series point standings for 2003 and 2004. He plans to be the 2005 Series champion.

“I want to repeat as champion at both McKean and Little Valley and win the BRP CanAm Series championship,” stated Todd. “I might as well set high goals, right? The BRP Series is the best thing that ever happened for this Super Stock class and I really want that Championship this year. I am tired of being consistent. I want to win more races and the Championships.”

Rice’s most successful racing season was 2004 when he won track championship titles at both McKean County Raceway and Little Valley Speedway. However, he had targeted the 2004 BRP CanAm title as well after falling 85 points short in 2003. He closed the gap to just 36 points last year, but there was still a gap!

“We were very good everywhere we raced last year, but got caught up in problems at both Genesee and Woodhull and that cost us the BRP Championship. I was the fastest car that night at Genesee and was racing Dustin Croft for third when I was taken out by another car in an unnecessary crash. I was faster than Dustin and he won that race, so I believe if I had been there for the finish, I would have won. At Woodhull, the car really liked that track, I was up to fifth when I got caught in a late race spin and did not have time to get back to the front. If either of those deals had not happened, I would have won the Series championship,” related Rice from his Eldred, PA race shop where he was preparing his race car hauler for the new racing season. “The race car is ready, but I’ve got a little problem with the truck right now.”

“Our new car worked great at the Black Rock practice session. That is the only time it has been on the track. I was really looking forward to the McKean opener [rained out], but we will now wait another week to see how the car works in competition. At Black Rock, it worked both high and low. It stuck everywhere and had lots of power. We had our McKean gears in and were pulling a few more RPMs. There were lots of grooves and the track was very smooth. I wish that we could race there every week.”

Rice’s new car is an all new round tube GRT Taurus from Joel Smith and associates at Close Racing Supply. The SVO Ford engine was built by Bob Repine [machining] and Marshall Shunk [assembly]. Primary sponsorship for Rice’s 2005 racing season comes from Bauchard Dodge of Bradford and Bauchard Resale of Smethport. Associate sponsors include Tioga Energy, McKiernan Towing & Recovery, Morgan Linen, Shunk’s Auto & Race Engines, and Hidden Agenda. The beautiful color and graphics on the Taurus sheet metal were applied by Cousin’s Designs Steve Hudak serves as race car / crew chief.

Todd Rice began his racing career in a street stock at McKean County Raceway in 1988. He moved up to the limited late model class in 1989 and continued there through the 1993 racing season. Rice did not race from 1994 through 1998 other than a few 1995 starts in Gary McDowell’s limited late. He has been a full time super stock weekend warrior since 1999. Rice doesn’t keep track of his win totals but estimates “about 17 wins and a whole lot of seconds.” His most memorable race is a 2002 win at Little Valley which came after a 10 lap side by side duel with Doug Ricotta. Rice took the lead coming out of turn four on the last lap. His most important win was the 2003 Brock Young Memorial event at McKean. The previously mentioned 2004 DNF at Genesee is the race he would most like to forget. A race that he will never forget is the August 23, 2003 BRP CanAm event at Genesee. That race was rescheduled from a rainout of the prior week. Rainouts are never good, but when the rain date is on your wedding day it really tests the marriage. He has forgotten where he started or finished the race, but neither he nor his new bride, Jodi, will ever forget the record run from Eldred to Batavia while most of the wedding party was dancing at their wedding reception.

The next most important win will be a 2005 BRP CanAm Series race as a step towards the Series Championship. That opportunity will come on Sunday May 29th at Little Valley Speedway when the twelve event 2005 BRP CanAm Series begins and conclude on Saturday October 15th at Black Rock Speedway. Other tracks hosting 2005 Series events include Genesee Speedway, Humberstone Speedway, McKean County Raceway, Merrittville Speedway, Ransomville Speedway, and Woodhull Raceway. Detail schedule is available at www.brpcanamsuperstockseries.com.

This Series is designed to promote the very competitive Super Stock race teams that compete weekly at Genesee Speedway and McKean County Raceway.
