Steve Dixon and Larry Knowles File for BRP CanAm Series Rookie Title

St. Catharines, ONT…The first two drivers to file for the 2005 BRP CanAm Series Rookie of the Year title are Steve Dixon of Smethport, PA and Larry Knowles of Painted Post, NY.

Steve Dixon is the son of two time Series champion Bob Dixon. The 25 year old racer has four years of street stock racing experience highlighted by McKean County Raceway 2003 and 2004 street stock champion titles. Dixon will be driving a completely refurbished Bullit that was campaigned previously by his dad. Steve promises that his primarily white #50 Monte Carlo will look even better than his dad’s #25 GRT Monte Carlo that won the Best Appearing car award at the recent Olean Center Mall show. Primary sponsorship for Dixon’s rookie Super Stock season is provided by Duffy’s Inc. with associate sponsorship from Fox’s Pizza, Northern Tier Water Truck Service, D&D Stone, and Dixon Racing Decals.

Larry Knowles has been racing for 14 years. During that time he has won “about 40” feature events, has earned four track championships, but has never been named Rookie of the Year! Knowles holds three Super Stock Championship titles from Woodhull Raceway and a Black Rock Speedway Pro Truck Championship. Knowles considers his two 2003 Championships [Woodhull Super Stock and Black Rock Pro Truck] his most important racing accomplishment. Knowles and Dylan Dewert have modified the 2004 Woodhull champion Super Stock to meet BRP CanAm technical specifications. Knowles, known by some as the Racin’ Guy, always has very professional appearing race cars. He promises that the new #4 Monte Carlo will continue that tradition wearing Harley Davidson black and orange in respect of his primary sponsor, Harding Harley Davidson of Corning. Associate sponsorship for Knowles’ rookie run with the BRP CanAm Series is provided by Doug Gross Construction / Equipment Rental, Stage’s Motor Company, and Klopp’s Transmission.

Rookie eligibility requires that the driver has competed in no more than one BRP CanAm Series event prior to the 2005 Series. Neither Dixon nor Knowles has ever competed with the BRP CanAm Series. However, both drivers bring very impressive racing credentials to the Series.

At the end of the 2005 Series, the rookie driver who has accumulated the most points will be named BRP CanAm Series Rookie of the Year. In the event of a tie the driver with the best A-Main finishing position will be declared the winner.

The twelve event 2005 BRP CanAm Series will begin on May 29th at Little Valley Speedway and conclude on October 15th at Black Rock Speedway. Other tracks hosting 2005 Series events include Genesee Speedway, Humberstone Speedway, McKean County Raceway, Merrittville Speedway, Ransomville Speedway, and Woodhull Raceway. Detail schedule is available at www.brpcanamsuperstockseries.com.

This Series is designed to promote the very competitive Super Stock race teams that compete weekly at Genesee Speedway and McKean County Raceway.
