Andy Miller Leads BRP CanAm Point Chasers Into September Stretch

St. Catharines, ONT… Andy Miller leads 72 other drivers into the September Stretch of the 2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series point championship. After seven of the eleven point events, Miller has earned 570 points, 42 points more than Todd Rice, his closest pursuer.

During the September Stretch the Series will return to Genesee Speedway on Sunday the 5th and Little Valley Speedway on Saturday the 25th. Slotted in between is a double header weekend at Ransomville Speedway on Friday the 17th and Woodhull Raceway on Saturday the 18th.

Miller has held the point lead for most of the 2004 campaign. Only twice has the older of the two racing Miller brothers finished out of the top 10. After those events he gave up the top spot, but in each case, only until the next race. Miller’s BRP CanAm Series record includes wins at Little Valley and Merrittville, second at Freedom and Genesee, and third in the most recent event at McKean. Crashes with resulting DNFs in the first McKean event and at Bradford yielded 22nd and 17th place blemishes on the record of the 33 year old second generation driver.

Todd Rice stands tall in second with 528 points, just 42 point behind Miller. Rice is only other driver to lead the Series point battle this year. Unfortunately for him, his time in the top spot was cut short by being in the wrong spot at the wrong time in an unnecessary crash resulting in an 18th place finish at Genesee. Rice’s best finishes have been third three times. The Eldred, PA speedster has been fifth and eleventh in the last two outings with his Ford powered GRT Taurus and would relish beating all those Chevys!

Tim Rockwell continues to impress everyone with his 2004 Series record. Rockwell opened the season at the Merrittville Speedway Dash where he finished third. The Salamanca racer backed up that Merrittville run with a second at Little Valley. He was 8th at Freedom, 5th in the Merrittville points event, 6th at McKean race #1, 5th at Genesee, and 9th at Bradford. Only in the most recent event at McKean has the Salamanca driver finished out of the top ten. There he was racing in the top five until three laps to go when a mechanical failure sidelined him and produced a 22nd finishing position. That great record has produced 506 points, good enough for third place in the standings as we enter the September Stretch.

Bob Dixon, the defending BRP CanAm champion, has quietly worked his way to fourth in the point tally. His win at McKean, combined with four other top 10 finishes, has partially offset the setbacks of two crashes and resulting DNFs. Dixon has earned 497 points so far.

Jeremy Wonderling has literally had an up and down Series. His biggest upper was the $1622 win in the 2nd Annual Brock Young Memorial race at McKean. His biggest downer was an upside down crash at Freedom. The second generation Scio Speed Society racer is currently 5th in the standings with 474 points.

Wayne Adamczak is another driver who has quietly and steadily moved up the points ladder. The Holland, NY resident currently holds down the 6th spot in the $18,000 point battle. Adamczak turned his season around a few weeks ago with receipt of a DSE1 built power plant for his Warrior Grand Prix.

Jr. Peters has parlayed a string of three top ten finishes in the past three events to move into 7th in the point chase. Peters’ 4th, 7th, and 8th place finishes all came within a six day period. He is hoping to keep that record intact and add a win to his resume during the September Stretch.

Ron Baker is enjoying a great 47th year of racing. The Freedom, NY veteran has won at his weekly tracks and been consistent in the Series. His best ever Series finish of second at Bradford has helped him climb to 8th in the point battle.

AJ Young has battled back from a DNQ in the Freedom event in June to hold down 9th in Series points. AJ is another second generation driver with a lot of class and talent. This Scio Speed Society racer wants to better his second place finish in the McKean Fair race in one [or more] of the remaining Series races. He is more concerned about a win than the points, but he is happy to be in the company of the top twelve Series point members.

Jim Johnson, the defending Genesee point champion, is another Ford driver who would really enjoy beating his Chevy powered friends. The Series championship is still mathematically possible, but the uphill battle from 10th and a 167 point deficit may be too much to overcome.

Currently, Genesee winner Dustin Croft and Racin’ Jason Dupont round out the top twelve point earners. Bruce Miller, Bill Holmes, and TJ Shaw are all very much still in the hunt for a top twelve point finish and the opportunity to share in the $18,000 point fund.
