BRP CanAm Super Stock Series Double Header St. Catharines, ONT… The BRP CanAm Super Stock Series heads into a double header weekend on Saturday August 14 and Sunday August 15. The quick and pretty Super Stocks [really 360 dirt late models] will race at the Genesee Speedway in Batavia on Saturday and then head south to the Bradford Speedway for a Sunday evening contest. The Genesee Speedway event is the first annual Doug Beherns Memorial presented by the Beherns family and Bob Mullen’s Pro Speed. The 2003 Series event at Genesee attracted a Track and Series record of 50 race teams. A similar number is expected on the 14th. Genesee has a strong contingent of weekly Super Stock teams that do not follow the Series. Those weekly warriors, including Jerry Bentley, Clayton Downs, Stubby Pangrazio, and Paul Weber, will be out to show the touring Series drivers the quick way around their Genesee County Fairgrounds track. Jim Johnson, three time and defending Genesee Super Stock champion, is following the BRP CanAm Series in addition to his weekly racing at Genesee. Johnson stands 11th in Series points and hopes to win at his home track and move up the Series point ladder. Other Genesee stars who are running the Series and looking forward to home turf advantage include Bob Babbitt, Scott Beherns, Justin Chaddock, Dave Dubois, Jim Mazur, and Chief Neil Patterson. The Sunday event at Bradford Speedway, presented by Close Racing Supply, will pay $1000 to the winner vs. the $750 Series minimum. The defending Bradford Series winner is Port Colborne, ONT speedster Darren Kish. Kish had never even seen Bradford Speedway until last August when he won his first and only Series point event. Like Genesee, Bradford Speedway has several strong running Super Stock teams that curtail their racing activities to that speedway. Heading that list is current high point man Jack Harrington. Harrington and Series racer Ron Baker are engaged in a fierce battle for the 2004 Bradford Speedway track championship. Baker has not yet won a Series event and the racing veteran believes that the historic mountain top ¼ mile race track offers him his best shot for his first Series win. Other “Bradford only” drivers looking for the $1000 top spot payoff include Butch Talbot, Joe Layfield and Dean Layfield. Both Bradford Speedway and Genesee Speedway will award an equal number of track points to all drivers who qualify or attempt to qualify for the Series A-Main. This promotional tool will help the tracks earn bragging rights for Series event car count. Following this BRP CanAm Super Stock Series doubleheader weekend, the race teams have a short four day break to get ready for a return to McKean County Raceway for the annual Thursday night county fair race on Thursday August 19. The BRP CanAm Super Stock Series is designed to promote the extremely competitive Super Stock programs that are contested weekly at Bradford [PA] Speedway, Freedom [NY] Raceway, Genesee [NY] Speedway, and McKean County [PA] Raceway. The 2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series includes 12 programs with events scheduled at the weekly tracks plus Little Valley [NY] Speedway, Merrittville [ONT] Speedway, Ransomville [NY] Speedway, and Woodhull [NY] Raceway.
