Todd Rice Leads $18,000 BRP CanAm Point Chase

St. Catharines, ON… Todd Rice of Eldred, PA has taken the BRP CanAm Super Stock Series point lead after four of the eleven events that comprise the 2004 Series. Rice has not yet won an A-Main, but he was third at McKean County Raceway [MCR] in the most recent Series event, third in the Series opener at Little Valley Speedway, seventh in the Victoria Day Holiday event at Merrittville Speedway, and third at Freedom Raceway.

Rice leads 57 other drivers in the chase for the 2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series point championship. At season’s end, the top twelve Series point earners will share in the $18,000 point fund. Currently only 108 points separate Rice from 12th place competitor, Wayne Adamczak.

“I just can’t win a race. The car is good and we are having some good luck, but I just can’t win. It isn’t just the Series, but everywhere we race. I am also leading in points at Little Valley [Speedway] and Smethport [McKean County Raceway], but I really want to win some races. Don’t get me wrong, I like leading in points, but I would really like to win a race,” said Rice. You really get the impression that Rice wants to win!

2. Andy Miller lost the point lead after the MCR event on July 26th. Miller had lead the point parade since his win in the Little Valley Series opener. A DNF and resulting 22nd finishing position at MCR erased his 43 point margin and now Miller stands second, five points behind Rice.

3. Tim Rockwell continued his series of top ten finishes at MCR with a strong sixth place finish and holds on to third in the chase for the 2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series championship title. Rockwell’s 2004 Series results now show a second, a fifth, a sixth, and an eighth.

4. Jeremy Wonderling’s MCR win and the resulting 100 points moved him from fifth to fourth on the point tally sheet. After four Series events it is a toss-up for the 2004 Most Improved Driver between Rockwell and Wonderling. In 2003, Wonderling found it difficult to finish a race. This year he has the win, a fourth, and a fifth to help offset the DNF at Freedom where his car ended up on its roof.

5. Bruce Miller has steadily climbed from 19th after the LVS opener to fifth in the point standings. Bruce’s biggest point night came in his victory at Freedom. To date, Miller has collected 261 points which puts him 81 points behind leader Rice.

6. T.J. Shaw is another driver showing great improvement in 2004. Shaw was second at MCR for his beat Series finish ever. The 95 points awarded for that finish moved the Portville speedster from 12th on the point tally to sixth.

7. Bill Holmes suffered his second DNF of the 2004 Series at MCR when the front suspension failed on his GRT Monte Carlo. Holmes started out with back to back fourth place finishes, but now has back to back DNFs. The Chaffee, NY heavy equipment operator has slipped to seventh in the point standings. Holmes is anxiously awaiting the August 14 event at Genesee Speedway where he plans to win and avenge both his recent setbacks and the heart breaking loss he experienced in the 2003 Genesee Speedway Series event.

8. Ron Baker, the 68 year old racer who races with the enthusiasm of a 28 year old, has been consistent all year. He has won non Series events at Bradford and Freedom this season and plans to improve on his eighth place point position as the Series moves to a tough Genesee, Bradford, McKean schedule during a six day period.

9. Bob Dixon, the defending BRP CanAm Super Stock Series champion, moved into ninth place in the championship chase with his great fourth place finish at McKean. Dixon is perhaps the best equipped of any of the BRP CanAm point chasers with a fleet of three complete GRTs and an “in process” Shaw in his Smethport, PA race shop.

10. A.J. Young would love to throw out the DNQ at Freedom and he would have a perfect all top ten finish record, but the $18,000 BRP CanAm point program counts all race results and as a result Young stands tenth in the point standings.

11. Jim Johnson, like Young, has a DNQ blemish on his 2004 BRP CanAm record, but the ever positive Batavia Ford chauffeur plans to move from 11th to the top before the final checkered flag of the 2004 Series waves at Little Valley Speedway on September 25th.

12. Rounding out the top 12 Series point earners after four of the 11 point shows is Wayne Adamczak. Wayne expects to have a new DSE1 [Dale Stroud / Joe Plazek] engine in his B&B Sharptek Warrior Grand Prix for the remainder of the season and, with that, more horsepower and better finishes to move up the point ladder.

Next for the BRP CanAm Super Stock Series is a double header weekend with races at Genesee Speedway on Saturday August 14 and Bradford Speedway on Sunday August 15.

The BRP CanAm Super Stock Series is designed to promote the extremely competitive Super Stock race teams that race weekly at Bradford [PA] Speedway, Freedom [NY] Raceway, Genesee [NY] Speedway, and McKean County [PA] Raceway. The 2004 BRP CanAm Super Stock Series includes 13 programs with events scheduled at the weekly tracks plus Little Valley [NY] Speedway, Merrittville [Ont] Speedway, Ransomville [NY] Speedway, and Woodhull [NY] Raceway.
