BRP CanAm 2004 Schedule Set St. Catharines, Ontario……….BRP CanAm Super Stock Series organizers have completed negotiations with track operators for their 2004 racing schedule. The second year for the Series includes twelve events at eight race tracks. That is up from nine events at seven tracks in 2003. As anticipated with the recent announcement that Bicknell Racing Products had become the title sponsor of the Series, Merrittville Speedway will host the BRP CanAm Super Stocks in 2004. New to the schedule are two shows at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario. The first, on Monday May 24, will be a non-points program highlighted by a Bicknell Racing Products Dash For Cash. This event will help the Speedway celebrate the Victoria Day holiday and provide the race teams an opportunity to establish a base-line for car setups for the Thursday July 1 Canada Day full points show. As was the case for 2003, BRP CanAm points will begin and end at Little Valley Speedway on the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds in Little Valley, New York. The first show at the wicked fast half mile will be Sunday May 30. The final 2004 Series event will be on LVS Championship Night, Saturday September 25. Bruce Miller and Bob Dixon are defending Little Valley race winners. Freedom Raceway’s Dan Hoffman lost his August 2003 BRP CanAm show to rain. Hoping for a change to his luck, Hoffman will change the date and host the Series on Friday June 11, 2004. Freedom Raceway, Genesee Speedway, and McKean County Raceway are the tracks that feature the Super Stocks as part of their weekly racing programs. The first of two Series events at McKean County Raceway [MCR] will take place on Saturday July 24. This is an open Saturday night since Genesee Speedway is shut down that night. Todd Rice is the defending MCR Series race winner. New to the BRP CanAm schedule for 2004 is a second show at MCR during their Fair which will be on Thursday August 19. Thursday is the traditional stock car night at MCR going all the way back to 1955 when the first stock car race was staged at the E. Smethport facility. During the off-season Dennis Shutt has stepped aside as the MCR race organizer. The Fair Board has recently announced that Mike and Jim Duffy have the MCR lease for 2004. The Duffy involvement at MCR goes all the way back to mid 1950s when their father raced the Cleveland Garage Hudson Hornet #143 at the track. The traveling BRP CanAm showmen will perform north of the border for the third time in 2004 on Sunday August 1. That venue will be Gasport International Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario for the annual All Canadian Championships program. Bob Dixon and Dave Miller were Gasport victors in 2003. Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY will host two Series events in 2004. The first event will be on Saturday August 14 when MCR is not racing. New to the schedule is Sunday September 5. The September event will be part of a giant two day Labor Day weekend being scheduled by promoters Al Graham and Dave McCready. Doug Ricotta won the Series show at Genesee in 2003 in a spectacular run from the last starting position. Nearly as impressive as Ricotta’s victory was the fact that 50 Super Stock competitors showed up for the event. Bradford Speedway promoter Dennis Thomas has booked a return engagement for the BRP CanAm Super Stocks at the historic speedway which boasts that it once hosted a NASCAR Winston Cup event. NASCAR pioneer Junior Johnson of Ronda, NC won a 100 lap Winston Cup event at the mountain top race track in 1958. Darren Kish of Pt. Colborne, Ontario bested a strong 31 car field to win the 2003 BRP CanAm event in 2003. Ransomville Speedway has again included the BRP CanAm Series in its two day King Of The Hill racing extravaganza. The 2004 date is Friday September 17. In the past this race had been held on Saturday afternoon of KOTH. The new Friday night scheduling will provide a much improved racing surface for the high flying Super Stocks. Doug Ricotta led every lap of the 2003 event enroute to his second place finish in the final point tally for the Series. “Given our policy of not stepping on weekly programs and our understanding that our racers all have day jobs we believe the 2004 BRP CanAm schedule is about perfect. With strong weekly track programs and a sensible Series schedule we should be able to accomplish our goal of improved recognition and respect for this great class of race cars and its teams,” relates Series co-organizer Dennis Shutt.
